Jude William Genilo, PhD


Professor | Media Studies and Journalism Department

Jude William Genilo is the Head of the Media Studies and Journalism Department, University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB). He is also the Director of ULAB’s Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC). He earned his Doctor of Philosophy and Master’s Degree in Communication from the University of the Philippines-Diliman. He also has undergraduate degrees in Economics and Management from De La Salle University-Manila. Before joining ULAB, he headed the postgraduate program of a prestigious public relations school in Jakarta, Indonesia and served as a research fellow at the Kasetsart University Research and Development Institute (KURDI) in Bangkok, Thailand. He is author of the book, Community-Based Communication: A New Approach to Development Communication (Great Books Publishing: 2005), and co-editor (with Brian Shoesmith) of the anthology, Bangladesh’s Changing Mediascape: From State Control to Market Forces (Intellect UK: 2013). He co-edited a book with Muhammad Abdul Kader entitled “Revisiting Anwar Hossain’s ’71” (ULAB and Somoy Prokashoni: 2016).

 

Mahmudunnabi

Mahmudunnabi is a Senior Lecturer of Media Studies and Journalism at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh. Prior to joining ULAB, he worked for various media at home and abroad including NTV and Independent TV for more than 10 years. Mahmudunnabi obtained BA (Hons) in English and MA in Applied Linguistics and ELT from the University of Dhaka. He pursued his second MA in International Journalism from the University of Leeds, UK. His MA dissertation has been published as a book with the title “Objective Journalism-myth or reality? A comparative study of the BBC and the AJE online reports.” He has several more academic publications to his credit. He is currently doing a PhD under an offsite doctoral programme funded by National Institute for Health and Care Research at the University of Liverpool, UK.

Nazmul Islam is an Instructor, Program of Media Studies and Journalism at the University of Liberal ArtsBangladesh TV. Besides this designation, he has been working since 12years on Bangladeshi TV industry.He is now working as a Senior Producer of Somoy TV since 2020. He is also working as a Consultant for
UNICEF, BBC, and SEISIMI STREET for a long period of time. Nazmul Islam obtained his BA Hons in FILMAND MEDIA from Stamford University, Bangladesh, and now pursuing Post Graduation Program at
Stamford University, Bangladesh. Prior to joining Somoy TV, he worked for Jamuna Television as a SeniorVideo Journalist where he covered FIFA World Cup 2014, in Brazil. He is a specialist in Cinematography,
Arial Cinematography, Video editing, and Art Direction. He is also known as Media Development Trainer
in BBC Media Action.

Krishna Gopal Basak

Krishna Gopal Basak is a cinematographer with a bachelor’s degree in media studies and journalism, majoring in Digital TV and Film Production from ULAB. He is the founder of MEDFlect and is presently working as a cinematographer at Clapperboard Productions Ltd.

Krishna has worked with numerous reputed companies in Bangladesh and abroad, doing photography, program documentation, and OVC individually. He produces short films, music videos, and documentaries under different production houses. Currently, he has worked as a cinematographer in 22 short films and is continuing to do so.

Krishna’s cinematic production, Tulika, was screened at the prestigious Dhaka International Film Festival 2023 and won the best short film award at the Rainbow Film Festival in London.

Seoul Ahmed

A professional journalist, Seoul Ahmed completed his graduation in Media Studies and Journalism from ULAB. He obtained post-graduation diploma in Television media as a South Asia Foundation – SAF Scholar from Asian College of Journalism-ACJ in India. He received several fellowships including the Journalism Fellowship on ‘’Cyber Crime & Violent Extremism’’ from the Cyber Crime Awareness Foundation and another on the “Code of Ethics to Improve Conflict Sensitive Reporting and Safety of Journalists in South Asia” alongside other fellows from India, Nepal, the Maldives, and Sri Lanka. 

Shorab Khan chapal

Senior Motion Graphics Designer, NTV

Shorab Khan Chapal is currently working as a Senior Motion Graphics Designer at NTV. He did MSS and BSS in Public Administration from Dhaka University, and Post-Graduation and Master’s in Information Technology from Jahangirnagar University. Previously he worked in various other institutions including ATN BANGLA and London-bases Channel S television. His expertise is in the areas of 2D & 3D animation and motion graphics.

ULAB TV members are taught and trained by six professionals who are proficient & prominent in their respective fields
